Linear contact steel wire ropes—also known as parallel-lay steel wire ropes—are the most widely used mainstream products in fields such as modern hoisting machinery and mine hoisting. They were developed to overcome the drawbacks of traditional point-contact steel wire ropes, specifically internal stress concentration and a susceptibility to fatigue-induced wire breakage.
The large contact area between wires results in low contact stress and eliminates secondary bending stresses between internal wires; consequently, the service life is typically 1 to 1.5 times longer than that of point-contact wire ropes.

Point-contact wire rope is a type of rope with an older structural design in which wires in adjacent layers within the strand make contact at specific points. Typically constructed from wires of uniform diameter, this design features equal lay angles but unequal lay lengths across layers, causing the inner and outer wires to meet at crossing points. The 6×7 series wire rope is a classic product within the wire rope family, characterized by a structure featuring thick wires and a low wire count. Its core feature is a minimalist design consisting of six strands, with seven wires per strand. The thick outer wires create an exceptionally hard surface capable of withstanding intense friction and external abrasion. Due to the thickness and limited number of wires, the rope possesses high overall rigidity and stiffness; it is resistant to bending and is unsuitable for applications requiring frequent winding around small-diameter pulleys.
